Novas Name MacPherson as Captain

The Novas of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League announced last evening that Calum MacPherson will be their team captain for the 2014-2015 season. Calum, a second year bantam player and veteran of the Major Bantam Hockey program is from Antigonish and the son of Bruce & Erin MacPherson. Head Coach Kyle MacDonald commented on the selection of MacPherson as Captain, "Among our veteran group, we have some worthy future captains in our room making it a difficult decision for this year’s team. Although the other members all have important leadership qualities, one player’s character stood out the most to me. For opposing teams, he may not be known as a top scorer but it is tough to defend against someone with the amount of courage that he has. Calum has the type of leadership qualities that will enable him to make a great captain. In his first year with the team, I thought he was one of the quietest, and best leaders you could have because he simply went out on the ice, with no fanfare, and got the job done. For amount of time I coached him, I felt that being behind the bench and watching him compete on a regular basis, it was like, wow, what a great message to send to the rest of the guys. He has the ability to influence his teammates whether he knows it or not. When you have a player on your team that competes, and sacrifices himself the way he does, it pushes the rest of the guys to want to give more.  Off the ice, Calum carries himself in a respectful way, always showing the right amount of courtesy. What I know about Calum is that he exemplifies class, he’s a great teammate, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him as our captain. He truly deserves this."
