Northumberland Strait Exhibition Series Opens This Weekend in Antigonish

The Novas are proud to host the opening weekend of the 2026 Northumberland Strait Exhibition Series this Saturday and Sunday at the Antigonish Arena.

The exhibition series features four U15 Major programs: The Novas, WearWell Bombers, Charlottetown Islanders, and Eastern Express.

The series was created to provide teams from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island with additional exhibition competition against programs they do not normally face during the regular season. With Pictou and Prince Edward Island connected by a short ferry ride, the series provides a natural opportunity for teams on both sides of the Northumberland Strait to compete and build new connections.

The opening weekend will be played in Antigonish, with the Nova Scotia teams travelling to Prince Edward Island the following weekend to complete the series.

Admission for this weekend’s games at the Antigonish Arena will be free of charge.

Saturday, September 26

The Novas look forward to welcoming all teams, families, and supporters to Antigonish for what we hope becomes an annual hockey tradition.

The Novas would like to congratulate former team captain Duncan Anderson on earning a spot in the line-up with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

Duncan played with The Novas from 2022 to 2024 and served as team captain during the 2023–2024 season.

A skilled, playmaking defenceman, Duncan was a major part of The Novas during his time with the program. He continues to hold the Novas regular season record for most points by a defenceman, a reflection of his ability to impact the game at both ends of the ice.

During his final season with The Novas, Duncan helped lead the team to a bronze medal at the Nova Scotia U15 Major Provincial Championship.

Since graduating from the program, Duncan has remained committed to his development and continued working toward his goal of playing in the QMJHL. Through hard work, patience, and determination, he has now earned that opportunity with the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Novas are proud to recognize Duncan’s accomplishment and wish him continued success as he begins the next chapter of his hockey career.
