High Five for Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have collected all five available points in game one of the Esso Bantam Challenge Cup against the Scotsburn Major Bantam Crushers from Pictou.

Morgan Messenger (Benight, Lunn) couldn’t have started things off any better scoring on the first offensive attack with a short side wrist shot. Later on in the period it was Josh Shatford (Benight, Baker) on the receiving end of a great cross ice pass for a one timer that beat the Crusher goaltender who was frustrating the Hurricane offense on numerous occasions.

The second period had points to offer as well and the Hurricane pushed to get them. Finally Shatford (Benight) on a spin move from the slot found the mark to help the Hurricane go up three and earn another valuable point for the second period in the scoring system used for the Esso Cup.

Leaving only the third period to collect points in, and, not to forget about the 2 points for the win of course; the Hurricane were expecting to sweep the points available in the third. Suddenly, on a quick point shot from near the boards by a Crusher d-man, Pictou had found the back of the net. The Hurricanes were in a hole. Still lots of time but some soul searching for the Hurricanes had started. The point system doesn’t allow you to take periods off regardless of the leads you have.

Josh Shatford (M Messenger, Jollimore) completed the hat trick shortly after on a goal mouth scramble so at least the third period points could be halved. Catherine Tufts (Christian Tufts) would have none of that and restored the Hurricane faith as she scooped up a rebound and sent it home to give the Hurricanes the win and also all of the five points available to start things on the right foot.  Make the final Hurricane 5 – Crushers 1
