Western Hurricanes

Opening Day

The BMO Western Hurricanes saw a familiar foe early on today as they faced the Valley Wildcats to kick off the season. After facing them in a couple of exhibition games no one was really sure what to expect. With more than a few nerves evident in the first couple of shifts things settled down relatively quickly and the Hurricanes were able to start generating some opportunities. While the offense came late in the first with a goal by Morgan Messenger (Shatford, Benight) there still was work to do. Keegan Cooke(Nickerson) added to the lead around the midpoint of the second before being answered by Lucas Kane a few minutes later in a goal mouth scramble. The Hurricanes responded not wanting to let the season opener slip away with a goal from Bronsen Benight(Cooke, Mann) to close out the second.

The third period the Hurricanes shut down the Wildcats and added markers from Jordan Messenger(Duffus) and Keegan Cooke(Christian Tufts, Harnish) and finally Morgan Messenger(Shatford) to make the final 6-1. Overall a good start to the season. Next up for the Hurricanes will be the Cape Breton Cougars Friday evening.
