Novas Earn Four Points On Weekend To Keep Pace With Whalers

The Nova Major Bantams were back in action this past weekend with a home and an away game against the Valley Wildcats and the JonelJim Cougars.  “We didn’t start the second half of the year on the best note - I didn't think we played our best hockey against Bedford or Truro last weekend.  We weren’t sharp and they really showed us what it means to hustle for the puck and play as a team,” said head coach Kyle MacDonald.  “Hopefully, this weekend the effort level will improve and we can come out with four big points.”  On Saturday afternoon at the Antigonish Arena, the Novas played the Valley Wildcats and came away with a 4-1 victory.  Jacob Hudson lead the attack with a goal and an assist,  with Fearghus MacDonald, Logan Chisholm, and Blair Fraser adding single markers.  In the assists category, Stephen Fox and Liam Mackinnon lead the way with two assists each, with Calum MacPherson and Grant Mason posting the final helpers.  Colton Ellis was solid in nets for the win.  At the Emera Centre on North Sydney on Sunday morning, the Novas took on the surging JonelJim Cougars and came away with an exciting 2-1 victory!   Sean Stewart paced the Novas attack with a goal and an assist, with Logan Timmons providing the only other Nova goal.  Calum MacPherson, Fearghus MacDonald, and Jacob Hudson added the remaining helpers.  Colton Ellis picked up his league leading 18th win in nets!  “We had a better effort overall this weekend,” said Coach MacDonald.  “We still had a few lapses but we were able to hold off two very gritty teams and come out with the four points.”  On Saturday January 17th, the Novas entertain the league leading Dartmouth Whalers with the  puck drop slated for 5 PM at the Antigonish Arena.  “This is great hockey for this age category and indeed in any age category,” said Team President Shane MacIsaac.  “We have been getting great crowds at the Arena and I can guarantee that this weekend, hockey fans in the region will be treated to a beauty of a game!  We hope to see you there.”
