Novas Split Their Weekend In Liverpool

   

The Nova Major Bantams were back on the road this weekend with a pair of games at against the Western Hurricanes.  “We have been playing well as a team the past few weekends,” said head coach Kyle MacDonald.  “We saw the Hurricanes recently, and although we had a good they are not a team to take lightly. We have to stay disciplined and stick to our game plans in order to be successful.”  

 

On Saturday in Liverpool, the Hurricanes broke open the scoring with 5 seconds to go in the first notching a shorthanded marker to take a 1-0 lead in the game.  Two more power play goals early in the third by the Hurricanes built them a comfortable 3-0 lead!  Despite a valiant comeback attempt late in the third, the Novas were handed only their third regulation loss of the season dropping a 4-3 decision to the ‘Canes. Logan Timmons, Logan Chisholm, and Liam MacKinnon scored for the Novas; assists were credited to Stephen Fox, Fearghus MacDonald, and Ryan MacLellan.  Kolby Baker took the loss in the cage on Saturday.  On Sunday, the Nova Major squad avenged Saturday’s defeat with a 4-0 victory.  Logan Chisholm and Malcolm MacEachern each had a goal and an assist for the Novas.  Fearghus MacDonald and Jacob Stewart rounded out scoring in the the goals department, while Chase Ellis, Sean Stewart, and Loan Timmons added single helpers. Colton Ellis recorded the victory in nets in Sunday’s contest.  “This weekend we wanted to get four points to maintain our positioning near the top of the standings,”offered Coach MacDonald.  “Instead, it was a lesson learned - you can’t take a single game off in this league or it will hurt you!  In particular, our special teams seem to fall asleep this weekend, so that is something we will have to address in the coming weeks”  The Novas entertain the Landworks Gulls at home on Saturday and play a road game against the Scotsburn Crushers on Sunday in Stellarton at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.  Puck drop for the home half of the weekend is slated for Saturday evening at 5 PM at the Antigonish Arena.
