Cougars Win in Liverpool and Pictou

The Cougars took the bus to Queens Place Emera Centre on Saturday to visit the Western Hurricanes.  Usually a close battle between these 2 teams and this game did not dissappoint.  The teams battled through 2 scoreless periods as goalies Kaine Drake and Parker Rowter kicked aside every shot.  Scoreless draw after 2 periods.  Hurricane captain Matt Barron got the home side on the board first, jumping on a loose puck and sliding it past Drake.  And just 25 seconds later, Barron again scored, this time from Ian MacPhee and Dawson Wood.   With just 10 minutes to play, Colton Marchand fired a shot past Rowter from Derek Gentile and Jarrett Baker to cut the lead to 1.  Gentile then tied the game sniping one into the Hurricanes net with 4.23 to play.  and less then 2 minutes later, Marchand swooped in a loose puck and buried it to give the Cougars their first lead of the game.   Logan Struthers and Gentile assisting.  Marchand would put the icing on the cake with an empty netter from Gentile.  Final score 4-2 Cougars.  Drake made 18 stops for the win, while Rowter had 21 saves in the loss.

The Cougars rolled into Pictou County Wellness Centre for a game with the Scotsburn Crushers.  The Crushers always play the Cougars tough and this game was no exception.  Logan O'Neil would score early for the Cougars burying a shot past Crusher netminder, Tyler Howe, Dylan Pimentel and Connor Campbell had the helpers.  O'Neil would find the net again on the PP, this time from Hunter Bettens and Gentile.  Cougars led 2-0 with 20 miles to go.   Gentile would score for the Cougars to give them a 3 goal lead halfway through the 3rd, Pimentel had the assist.  Oliver Schnare took advantage of a loose puck and slipped it past Cody Smith to get the Crushers on the board.  O'Neil would put the game out of hand completing the hat trick with 5 minutes to play, Pimentel with his 3rd assist of the game.   Final score 4-1  Smith had the W making 9 saves, while Howe suffered the loss making 28 saves.

Cougars next play Saturday night at Emera Centre Northside when they host league leading Bubba Rays Gulls at 7 PM.  Cougars host the Cole Harbor Pro Hockey Life Storm at 2 PM Sunday at the Bayplex
