Cougars Win 2 for Christmas

Saturday night at Cole Harbour Place, the ice was barely dry as Mitchell Balmas sniped a goal 15 seconds into the game.  Dylan Morley and Balmas with his 2nd would score to give the visiting team a 3-0 lead after 1 period.  The Storm came out flying in the second, and only the stellar play of Cougar 'tender Liam MacDonald kept the Storm off the board.  Daniel Reid scored early in the 3rd to make the score 4-0.  Balmas added an assist for a 3 point night, Derek Gentile added 2, while Dylan Morley and Brandon Dauphinee added single helpers.  MacDonald collected his 3rd shut-out of the year, while Mark Grametbauer was solid in the Storm net, shot totals were unavailable.

With only 2 points seperating the teams for first place, the Gulls played host to the Cougars at the Forum in Halifax.  The Cougars out shot the Gulls 14-6 in the first, but Matt Williams was stingy in the Gull net stopping everything fired his way.  The Gulls took the play to the Cougars in the 2nd, but goalie Levi Denny was spectacular making 10 stops.  The score was 0-0 with 20 to play.  In the 3rd with 10 minutes to play, Balmas found Gentile at the side of the net, and Gentile made no mistake for a 1-0 Cougar lead.  The rest of the game was all Big Guy Denny, who shut the door for his second shut out of the year, make the final 1-0 Cougars.

The Cougars roll into Christmas as the first place team in the league.  The team has a few weeks off from league play to enjoy the holidays.
