Cougars split Weekend Series with Nova Jr XMen

Breton Sport and Trophy Cougars 6 game unbeaten streak ended Saturday night with a 3-2 loss at Northside Civic Center to Nova Jr X Men.  Special teams were a deciding factor in this game as X Men received powerplay goals from Joshua Stewart and Brian MacDougall.  Alex Bonaparte scored the eventual game winner.  Mitchell Balmas scored 2 goals on the powerplay for the hometown Cougars.  Blade Mann-Dixon made 28 stops for Nova, and Eva Hall suffered the loss, making 20 saves.

Cougars returned to the Win column on Sunday in Port Hawkesbury outscoring their rivals 4-3 in a game where special teams once again played a huge role.  Balmas sniped 3 times for the Cougars.  2 of his 3 goals were shorthanded, including the game winner.  Tristan Nordine had a goal and 2 assists, Carter MacGillivary had 2 assists.  Randon MacKinnon, Joshua Stewart, and Donovan Rehill scored for the Jr X Men.  Levi Denny was solid while picking up the win, Mann-Dixon was between the pipes for Nova.  Shot totals were unavailable.

Cougars next return to action in the Memorial Tournament in Pictou hosted by Scotsburn Crushers.  Round Robin play begins Friday February 17th.
