Bearcats lose two openning weekend

The Truro Major Bantam Bearcats opened up their 2011-12 season with two loses on the road, over the weekend in Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League action. The Bearcats lost 4-0 to Bedford Barons on Saturday and 6-4 to Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm on Sunday.

On Saturday, Bearcats goalie Luke Melanson turned away 30 shots, but that wasn’t enough, as the Bearcats only managed 18 shots on the Bedford goalie and did not score.

On Sunday, the Bearcats traveled to Eastern Shore to play the Storm. Truro came out flying and went up 3-1, but couldn’t hold on losing 6-4. The Bearcats were led by Michael Stuart’s two points (Goal/Assist), with singles going to Lucas Rushton, Liam Giffen and Trent Lynds. Helpers went to Lucas Holman, Luke Melanson, Lucas Sangster, Devin MacLaughlin, Jacob Bowers and Bradley Gallant.

Luke Melanson started the game and was relieved by Blake Meech midway through the second period. The tandem faced 31 shots, while the Bearcats fired 34 shots at the Storm.

“Even though we were disappointed losing both games, our guys competed until the end each day”, commented Head Coach Josh Boulton.

“This group of players have only been together for two practices prior to the weekend games, so there is definitely lots to work on moving forward, said Boulton.

The Bearcats are on the road next weekend with games in East Hants on Saturday vs Newbridge Academy and Sunday it is back to Eastern Shore for a rematch with Harbour Storm.
