The Novas

Mattie Joins Nova Coaching Staff

Nova Major Bantam Hockey Team President Shane MacIsaac announced today that Jamie Mattie is joining the team’s coaching staff for the 2018-2019 season.
The 37-year-old native of Bayfield, Nova Scotia, played his minor hockey in Antigonish and then went on to play two seasons with The Antigonish Junior ‘A’ Bulldogs, serving as the team’s Captain in 1999-2000. Mattie completed his junior career with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL, where he received The Defenseman of The Year Award in 2000-2001 and where he still holds the USHL Single Season Record for Assists by a Defenseman. Mattie went on to play professionally for five years for The Graz EC in Austria in The Austrian Elite League. “In Jamie Mattie, we get an individual who knows the game of hockey. His wealth of experience in both the North American and European styles makes him an invaluable
resource. I’ve known Jamie and his family since he first joined the Bulldogs in 1998; they are great hockey people in our community and are dedicated supporters of all levels of hockey. When we became aware that Jamie may be interested in joining The Novas, there was no discussion or debate; Coach Stewart and I jumped at the chance to talk to him.”
