Novas Sluggish In Battle For 1st Place
“We haven’t been paying our best hockey of late,“ said coach Kyle MacDonald. “We knew this weekend is important especially with the way the Whalers have been playing all year. We have to get on them early, and try to establish our game. That’s the way we will have success against them.” Unfortunately, the offence seemed to elude the Nova Bantams this weekend, only managing three goals in two games. At the Antigonish Arena on Saturday, the Nova Majors fell behind the Whalers early and couldn’t find the back of the net against the stingy Dartmouth netminding, with the game ending in a 3-0 defeat. On Sunday in East Hants, the Novas broke the ice in the second when Jacob Hudson found the back of the net on the power play assisted by Jack Morris and Stephen Fox. Logan Timmons added a second power play marker midway through the third (assisted by Fearghus MacDonald and Logan Chisholm), while Fox rounded out the scoring a few minutes later with another power play goal assisted again by Morris. The Senators pressed hard in the late stages of the game but could only manage one goal as Colton Ellis stood tall and preserved the 3-1 victory. “We certainly didn’t have our best weekend”, commented Coach MacDonald. “I felt that as a team, we have to learn how to tighten some things up when our offence isn’t working. Good thing our power play was clicking on Sunday!” The Nova Bantams return to league action in two weeks with a road game against the ACCEL Hawks and finish the season in their home rinks the following weekend.
