Former Nova Colten Ellis Makes NHL Debut with Buffalo Sabres

The Novas are proud to celebrate a major milestone for one of our alumni. Former Nova and standout goaltender Colten Ellis (2013–2015) will make his first NHL start tonight with the Buffalo Sabres as they face off against the Detroit Red Wings.

Colten, who grew up in River Denys, Nova Scotia, was a key part of The Novas during his U15 Major seasons before moving on to a successful junior career with the Cape Breton West Islanders, the Rimouski Océanic, and the Charlottetown Islanders. He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 3rd Round (93rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft and joined the Buffalo Sabres organization in 2025.

Known for his calm presence and athletic ability between the pipes, Ellis has continued to impress at every level of the game. Tonight marks the next step in a journey built on hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Everyone in The Novas organization — past and present — is incredibly proud of Colten’s achievement. Congratulations, Colten, and best of luck in your NHL debut!
