Bearcats lose two to first place Hurricanes

The Truro Major Bantam Bearcats lost two games over the weekend in Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League play in Bridgewater vs the first place Western Hurricanes.

On Saturday, the Bearcats were defeated the 7-1. The Hurricanes scored 5 goals in the third period to run away with the game and erase a 2-1 decficit. Alex McNutt scored the lone goal for the Bearcats with Josh Pugsley assisting.

Truro goalie Blake Otterson played well despite the 7 goals against. Otterson stopped 40 of 47 shots in the game.

On Sunday the Bearcats had leads of 3-1 and 5-3, but that were erased quickly when the Hurricanes scored 5 goals on the power play and defeated Truro for the second time in two days 7-6.

The Bearcats goal scorers were Pugsley, McNutt and Stephen Belyea with two goals a piece. First year forwards Michael Stuart and Austin Blaauwendraat Wheeler chipped in with two assists each. Penalties cost the Bearcats in the contest with Truro receiving 11 minors and the Hurricanes only 4.

Truro goalie Luke Melanson stopped 31 of 38 shots.

Truro now sits 8th with a 3-5-2 record in the league.  Only 3 points out of 5th place.

The Bearcats are on the road next weekend when they travel to Sydney for two games. They return home on Saturday November 6th against the Valley Wildcats at 430pm at the Colchester Legion Stadium.
